Many security systems are supplied from a dedicated branch circuit that serves no other loads. The branch circuit must contain an equipment grounding conductor which is used for grounding non-current carrying metal parts of the security system enclosure. NFPA 731 Section 4.8 requires grounding to be done in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70). See requirements below.

4.8 Grounding.

4.8.1 All grounding shall be in accordance with NFPA 70.

4.8.2 Additional grounding shall be in accordance with manufacturer’s requirements.

4.8.3 All other circuits shall test free of grounds.
