Code Change Summary: Revisions were made regarding the location of mobile home service equipment.
In previous editions of the NEC®, Section 550.32 required the service equipment for a mobile home to be located in sight from and not more than 30 feet from the exterior wall of the mobile home it serves. This code section had mandatory language that was in conflict with the Article 100 definition of “within sight” or “in sight from”.
In the 2023 NEC®, Section 550.32 was changed to require mobile home service equipment to be mounted in a readily accessible outdoor location, and within sight from the mobile home it serves. The mobile home service disconnect is permitted to be used as the emergency disconnect in accordance with 230.85.
Below is a preview of the NEC®. See the actual NEC® text at NFPA.ORG for the complete code section. Once there, click on their link to free access to the 2023 NEC® edition of NFPA 70.
